3 Dog Training Tips for Breaking Bad Habits
There are bad dog habits that any dog owner will not be happy to see their dogs having. These habits simply drive the owner crazy. One thing to note is that these behaviors will not go away by punishment.
It needs creative training because many dogs usually do not understand why they are being punished. Here I will discuss the 3 dog training tips for breaking bad habits that your dog does. The three bad habits that usually annoy are naturally things that dogs do. These habits include barking, chewing and begging for food.
First of all, let’s talk about breaking the destructive chewing habit of your dog. We have all lost one of the costly pair of shoes to puppy teeth. The truth is that you will never prevent an adult dog or a puppy from chewing things. However, you can stop him from chewing on your material.
Dogs chew because of many reasons. First, when they cut teeth, puppies chew anything that could be useful. It enables the teeth pass through the gum. However, after puppy teeth have been cut, dogs continue to chew. First of all the best way for a dog to stop chewing is;
Give him toys he can chew on that are acceptable. Remove and place out of reach all unacceptable items. If you catch him chewing on something he should not chew on (for example on the dining table), you tell a firm ‘ NO,’ and remove the dog out of the object (do not remove the object) and give him an acceptable chew toy. Praise him when he chews the appropriate toy.
Dogs bark. You’re never going to stop some barking. For instance, when your dog barks at the mail order officer, the mail officer goes away, then the dog has succeeded. You’re never going to break this habit, you just forget about it. However, there can be correction to other incessant and unnecessary barking. When your dog barks unnecessarily, hold his mouth gently closed and say a firm “NO!” you don’t have to injure him. Make a closing motion using the other hand. Only displaying the “do not bark” sign (closing motion with your hand) will prevent this exercise after you repeat it a few times.
3. Begging for food:
All right, fairly simple! When you eat, don’t ever feed the dog. After eating, remember to ALWAYS feed your dog. You won’t have to break the habit if you never begin this. Only stop doing it if the practice has already been established. And don’t weaken and feed him when he begs, say “NO” strongly.
There are other habits that you can learn how to stop them. Habits like dogs digging on your yard, urine marking of your dog inside your house and also stealing food from your counter. All these habits are bad but the three are the major ones that occur always in every dog. Take time and apply the solution to eliminate these behaviors.
