There are a few things of which we can be sure, one being if you love your dog or dogs, an obedient dog will make your household a happier one. Of course, the time to start training your puppy is right away utilizing the dog training tips found below, getting it used to good habits and listening to you and those in the immediate household is a way to ensure success for everyone.

First things first though, even before you bring your puppy home you need to scope out a place for it to sleep and have down time. This should not be a place that has traffic all hours of the day and night, say for example a laundry room or the kitchen. It should be a place that, when down time or quiet time is needed, your puppy can go and feel safe and be comfortable. Some folks will put a bed or a crate in their own bedroom, which will help your puppy get used to your routine, some will set the puppy up in a spare room that is not used unless the homeowners are up and about. Whatever you choose, just be sure your puppy will be comfortable there. Something else to consider, to get your puppy used to your scent, when making up its bed you could include an old tee shirt or linens you no longer use so they associate the scent of you with being comfortable and safe.

In training your puppy to be obedient with regard to boundaries, the owner or owners need to keep a close watch on the puppy at all times when it is not in a confined area, whether that be a crate or closed in a room. Putting it bluntly, THIS IS ALL ON THE OWNER. Your puppy is going to want to explore its new surrounding so if you do not want cables, clothes, shoes, cosmetics or other small items chewed, put them out of reach. It is the same as baby proofing a home. As dogs get older they are more able to comprehend what they should and should not get into but as a puppy, forget it, again it is all on you! The extra time you spend with a puppy here will help ensure an obedient, well trained dog later

This is tip a to train your dog to know its boundries. But the key is consistancy on your part. By following these basic dog training tips, your labor of love will seem effortless.
